It starts out early 4 am and it takes the children some time to adjust. I feel like they were to excited about this trip they couldn't sleep. Checked in at the airport ready to Rock to find out we have a delay :(
Kings diner and a change of plans
To figure out our day thank goodness for the layover in Seattle. Try this again at 5pm.
One of a Kind Family
We have a unique family. We live in Kodiak, AK and have been here for four years so far. Currently My Husband and I are in the U.S. Coast Guard. We enjoy our jobs and we love were we are. We have four daughters who keep us super busy. We love the outdoors and wildlife so the Emerald Isle is the perfect place for this Unique bunch.

Angel Island
Above were the photos I took of this island.. However what got me interested in looking up some of the history on Angel island was listening to Ray about the history of his family and of other families and how they were held there for a period of time and this makes me want to go back and really see the places.. So until I come back for a tour of the island this is all I have.. Be prepared in the future prob way in the future another post of the History Carey Style.. I appreciate all Ray and Beth did over the weekend of giving me such a great trip to remember.. I so loved it.
History of the island -
The island is alive with history… three thousand years ago it served as a fishing and hunting site for Coastal Miwok Indians. It was later a haven for Spanish Explorer Juan Manuel de Ayala, a cattle ranch, and a U.S. Army post starting with the Civil War.
From 1910 to 1940, the island processed hundreds of thousands of immigrants, the majority from China. During World War II, Japanese, and German POWs were held on the island, which was also used as a jumping-off point for American soldiers returning from the Pacific. In the ’50s and ’60s, the island was home to a Nike missile site.
In 1946 the Quarantine Station located in Hospital Cove was declared surplus, and all functions were moved to San Francisco. In 1954 a number of citizen’s groups managed to persuade the California State Park Commission to obtain 36.82 acres surrounding
Hospital Cove (aka Ayala Cove) for a State Park.
In 1962 the Nike missle site on the south side of the island was deactivated, and the army left the island. In December of that year, the entire island was turned over to the State of California for park purposes – with the single exception of the unmanned Coast Guard station on Point Blunt, which continues in active operation to this day..

March Updates
I can't belive it is already March and we have not had enough snow for our little island. We keep hoping but we still have not gotten anything. I would love to use my snow shoes Steven bought me for Christmas but I have not had a chance just yet.. :(
Steven is back to work finally after his back surgery and is doing well. He also started his light working out since his surgery and seems to be happy to finally be back in the swing of things.
Parent Teacher conferences are around the corner again and I think the girls are doing well. First time I can say that I am excited about going to Kodiak Middle School and doing a better job at helping them in the School. Had out PTSA meeting and still working on getting more information out and also getting new members. It is my goal and drive to help the school out and to help the teachers and students that is why we are there.. :) Julie my President is just a driven as I am :)
Well little time will update again later.. maybe someday someone will read it.. lol. Hopefully :)

1 Feb. hmmm
Well we are in the second month of the year and it went by so fast I don't think I remember much of January.. But I am sadly mistaken.. Steven went in for his second back surgery and he is doing well. He jsut got back from his follow up, they took out his staples and told him to not overdo it and still not bend or stoop or anything with his back. Otherwise everyone is doing well. Alyssa is getting ready for her MORP dance and she is excited she has never been in a really nice dress since the wedding and it was rough to get her into that one :). Well I need to finish this and get to work. I hope you all have a wonderful day.

After the Holidays
Well its after the holidays and we are gearing up for another funfilled year. As I look back at the year that has just passed I ponder and wonder how it went so fast. We have a great family and have so many wonderful friends so all in all we are very blessed. We look at the year forward and wonder about Steven surgery and hope all goes well. My new job which I am sure it is going to be challenging but it will also be very rewarding. The girls are always doing well in school so we can't complain about that at all. Just in the near future concentrate more on Family and spending more time together. I will keep you all updated and once I get the hang of things even post photos. Don't pass out I might figure it out.
Happy New Year Everyone and have a blessed 2010

Well I am finally trying to update this blog.. I am not the best at this its something new. But another way to keep in touch with family and friends so they know what is going on in our busy life. It has been very hectic and its about time to slow down. Danielle was in Scrooge a production the Arts Council here in Kodiak puts on. It was such a great work of art. I will post photos soon so you all can see what I am talking about. I am going to save this post and see how my website works and then hopefully get a few people on here and we can stay in touch. Have a great Christmas and Happy New Year
